History of Villamaria
The sisters began to take in girls from poor families and initially taught them sewing, art and craft and cooking. This led to the girls eventually sitting for their Lower Certificate Examination as private candidate.
Later, Sr Therese Thong, the first local superior of the Good Shepherd Sisters started the Pusat Kebajikan Good Shepherd as a vocational school. In the 1970s, in line with their mission to serve the poor, the Good Shepherd Sisters closed the Junior International School. The kindergarten and nursery was retained and later moved to its present premises in Medan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
